WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Laura Richardson will be hosting a roundtable discussion on the Successes and Challenges for Transportation in the 37th Congressional District of California at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21st at the Long Beach Hyatt, which is connected to the Long Beach Convention Center. The roundtable event will feature Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari and Acting Maritime Administrator David Matsuda.
“This roundtable gives our impacted stakeholders a firsthand opportunity to discuss our transportation needs and challenges with those who make the decisions,” Congresswoman Richardson said. “By having national agency experts like Deputy Secretary Porcari and Maritime Administrator Matsuda visit the district, we will continue to establish that the 37th Congressional District is at the epicenter of transportation in the nation and evaluate what’s working, what’s not working and where we need to focus our transportation resources. This event also provides us with the opportunity to give these high-ranking officials a real picture of our situation, which will open up our ability to work together to improve the infrastructure of the district by reducing congestion, limiting pollutants in the air and ensuring a smooth flow of goods through the port and into the rest of the country.
The press is invited to join Congresswoman Richardson, Deputy Secretary Porcari and Maritime Administrator Matsuda for five minutes after the roundtable for a short question and answer segment. Press wishing to attend this event must RSVP by 9:00 a.m. on October 21, 2009 by phone, 202-225-7924, or email, jeffrey.billington@mail.house.gov.
