Congresswoman Richardson Gains Support for $450,000 in House Appropriations Funding and $4,414,965 More in Stimulus Recovery Dollars

Washington, DC—Congresswoman Laura Richardson delivered for her district yet again today by securing $450,000 in federal appropriations to fund electronic medical records and a regional senior citizens program.  The funding is included in the Fiscal Year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill.

In addition, Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced today that the City of Compton will receive $848,514 and the City of Long Beach will receive $3,566,451 in Recovery Act funding to help provide financial assistance and services to individuals and families from becoming homeless and to help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.

The Congresswoman issued the following statement:

“Just 4 months ago, the Long Beach City Council struggled to maintain their quality senior programming that many of our 52,000 seniors have enjoyed for years.

“After building this country and paying into the government system, most for over 50 years, it is only fair that our seniors get a return on their investment by continuing to have access to information and quality of life programs.

“The $100,000 in appropriations designated to the City of Long Beach for a Regional Service Collaboration Coordinator will serve Long Beach, Signal Hill, Carson, Compton and Willowbrook and thereby allow for a maximization of programming.

“As the Congress continues the debate over health care reform, one of the dependant factors is the implementation of electronic medical files.  While our hospitals implement this system, this $350,000 in appropriations will enable the Long Beach Medical Center’s Memorial Family Medicine Clinic to keep pace.

“Both the $100,000 and $350,000 appropriations are scheduled to get approval in the House before August 1st and in the Senate by November 1st.

“Likewise, the desperately needed recovery funds are rolling in at a solid pace.

“With the news of $2,050,000 in appropriations and $66,514,491 in Recovery Act funds in the last 60-90 days, my staff and I are maintaining a work ethic to deliver resources and results.”

Congresswoman Richardson is a Democrat from California’s 37th Congressional District.  She is a member of the House Committees on Transportation & Infrastructure and Homeland Security.  Her district includes Long Beach, Compton, Carson, Watts, Willowbrooke and Signal Hill.
