LONG BEACH, CA — “Just over a week ago, I returned to the United States from Cuba with seven congressional colleagues. The objective of our trip was to determine if there was openness on the part of the Cuban government to pursue normalization of relations with the U.S. --- and the answer was ‘yes.’
“I applaud President Obama for keeping his commitment to end cold war ideologies by turning a new page of history with our foreign neighbors. I am pleased with President Raul Castro’s openness to confirm his willingness to put everything on the table. I am further encouraged by Secretary of State Clinton’s acknowledgment that further progress is possible.”
“As the member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and representing one of our nation’s most vital transportation corridors, I look forward to participating in the legislative work needed to end a 50-year-old embargo to normalize trade between our two countries. ”
“Many Members on the trip have met with Cuban dissidents in the past and will do so in the future. I hope Cubans, Americans and dissidents alike are encouraged by our 5 days of activities that have already eclipsed decades of stalemate policies.”
